Black Ops and Black Ops 2 on PS4, PS5 Manage to Reach Over 7 Million Players in First Week
Never underestimate the power of nostalgia! It seems Activision’s re-release of the original Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 has been a resounding success — perhaps way more than what the publisher thought was possible.
In its first week of availability, the re-release of Black Ops and Black Ops 2 have combined to hit over seven million players. Mind you, this is with a ton of competition on the market.

Black Ops and Black Ops 2 PS4, PS5 Player Counts Are Amazing to See
While Activision removed the player counter in Black Ops 2, which was available in the original version’s release, it seems people in the beta program have a weekly player widget (via ResetEra) that mentions how many players logged in for the week.
It states that for Black Ops 2, the PS4 and PS5 re-release managed to attract 5.25 million players this week, while the original Black Ops garnered 1.96 million. Regardless if this is a re-release, a new game or whatnot, these are amazing numbers.
Imagine if Activision actually did a proper remaster? This game would explode even harder, right? That said, the fact that a straight port managed to do this well might be something Activision prefers, given it used a lot less money to release again.
