Report: Ghost Recon Wildlands Next-Gen Upgrade Features Leaked by PSN Store; Releases on August 6
While the Ghost Recon franchise was once a heavyweight in the shooter genre, the franchise seems to have lost its footing, as its most recent releases didn’t exactly light the gaming world on fire.
Ubisoft seeks to change that starting tomorrow, or at least give new life to one of the most recent releases as part of the franchise’s 25th anniversary tomorrow, August 6.
The publisher has something planned for tomorrow, but it seems someone forgot to remind whoever updates the PlayStation Store about it, as it has leaked the announcements planned for tomorrow.
Ghost Recon: Wildlands Next-Gen Upgrade Inbound on August 6
It looks like someone at PlayStation jumped the gun, as the announcement set for tomorrow was posted today. Set to be revealed during the Ghost Recon 25th anniversary stream is a shadow drop of a free next-gen upgrade for PS5 and Xbox Series X{S.
This was spotted by gamer Abbhiraj Nag, who took screengrabs of the PSN Store leak, which has since been pulled.
For those who own the game digitally, you’ll be able to download the free upgrade/native version for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, but for those who own the game on disc, you will need the disc inserted when playing the game.
The features players can expect include:
- 4K resolution at 60 frames-per-second upgrade
- 3D audio support
- Faster load times thanks to the SSD
- Haptic feedback and trigger effect
- The Upgrade brings
Alongside this upgrade, Ubisoft is also expected to release a new story pack for free called “The Last Rites,” and there will also be various quality-of-life improvements set to be applied by a game update as well.
If you want to try before you buy, Ghost Recon: Wildlands will also be free to try on August 6 to August 10 across consoles and PC.
Before anyone jumps for joy at this news, take note that this is unconfirmed and not official. While we’re not expecting someone to go to this great of a length just as a prank, there is still the slight possibility of that happening.
That said, we don’t have to wait long to find out, as the Ghost Recon 25th anniversary stream kicks off at 9am PDT/6pm CEST/12 nn EDT tomorrow, which gamers can watch on the official Ubisoft YouTube channel. Who knows? Maybe aside from this shadow drop, Ubisoft will finally announce a new Ghost Recon game too.
Perhaps this could be another win for Ubisoft after the impressive commercial performance of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, which has already exceeded Ubisoft’s annual expectations for the title.
