“StarCraft”Open-World Shooter Set in the Game’s Universe Announced, Releases in 2030

Blizzard Entertainment has announced a new entry in the StarCraft universe at BlizzCon today, and it’s one players probably aren’t expecting.

Simply titled “StarCraft,” Blizzard has revealed the latest entry as an open-world first-person shooter, and it’s due for release in 2030.

There’s a new cinematic trailer out that gives us a sneak peek at the character designs.

The description of the video reads:

THE SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF THE DOMINION ANSWERED THE CALL WHEN MANKIND NEEDED THEM MOST. THEIR COURAGE HELD THE LINE. THEIR SACRIFICE BOUGHT US ANOTHER DAY. NOW THE CALL COMES TO YOU.

CARRY THEIR STRENGTH FORWARD.

NO MATTER THE COST.

As expected, there aren’t a lot of details about it available just yet, and knowing how Blizzard operates, we shouldn’t expect any official info to surface anytime soon.

Regardless, this is huge news, as Blizzard is finally moving the franchise away from its real-time strategy formula. For reference, the last StarCraft game released was StarCraft: Remastered, which was an updated version of the original 1998 game and was pushed out in 2017.

While we expect StarCraft to be released on consoles and PC, there’s no word on whether we’ll see this title outside of Microsoft’s Xbox. PlayStation fans, don’t be surprised if this doesn’t make its way to the PS5 or PS6, as Microsoft has openly said they are pushing for more console-exclusives.

Speaking of exclusives, the former PlayStation-exclusive project “Physint,” a spiritual successor to the Metal Gear franchise, is now set to appear on Xbox instead. The inside scoop says that PlayStation ditched Kojima’s espionage game due to missed deadlines and going over budget,
