The Blood of Dawnwalker First Major Update Out in Early October, Brings New Difficulty Option, Combat Changes
While Rebel Wolves has released multiple game updates to The Blood of Dawnwalker since the game was released this month, these were more hotfixes than anything else, as it resolved issues that heavily impacted the gameplay experience.
Thankfully, the devs aren’t stopping there. As promised months before release, Rebel Wolves aims to deliver “smaller” free DLCs and updates, and we’re getting one next month.
Aside from bug fixes, the action-RPG’s first major update will deliver a new difficulty setting and also apply some much-needed combat improvements.
The Blood of Dawnwalker to Receive First Major Update Aims to Make Combat Flow Smoother
Speaking to Eurogamer, game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz confirmed that this big patch set for early October will add a brand-new difficulty, though the intent is not to make the game harder.
This new difficulty mode, which doesn’t have a label yet, will replace the game’s easiest difficulty — Story mode — as the new easiest setting, and will be the new Story mode. Once that’s slotted in, players will be able to choose from five new difficulty settings: Story, the renamed Story mode, Fair, Challenging and Duelist.
Tomaszkiewicz said, “We will introduce an additional difficulty level. but an easier one, because many people are asking for a more easy difficulty. The Story mode which we have right now will be a different difficulty – we will call it Demanding or something like this – and we will add a new Story mode which will be even easier for people who don’t want to experience the combat, they just want to learn the story and go through the game without this gameplay challenge.”
It’s not just the difficulty mode that’s getting a new addition, but combat improvements are on the way too.
Chief among the adjustments will be the camera and how it works when Coen stuns an enemy. In the game right now, when Coen stuns a foe, the camera switches to another target, and this was by design and not a bug. “When I was playing in some of the gameplay reviews, I wanted to stun an opponent and then switch to the other one, but because I was locked on him still, I hit him by mistake and took the stun from him, and that’s why we made it switch for the other character. But people complain about it, and in the newest patch we will lift off and we will see,” Tomaszkiewicz noted.
Other notable items in the upcoming patch are performance improvements and an easier way to run away from fights (no more getting forced to kill boars and wolves!). There is other stuff in the patch too, but Tomaszkiewicz can’t enumerate them all, stating, “there is a lot more which I don’t remember right now because it will be a big patch”. As to when this patch arrives, he said: “It’s quite close. I think that it will be somewhere in the beginning of October. It will be the big patch which will deliver a lot of upgrades for people.”
Tomaszkiewicz also confirmed New Game+ is in the works, though that’s something we reported on last week, and it doesn’t seem like it’ll be part of the big October patch.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is out now, and it lives up to the hype! Our review spoke very highly of it, and I added, “The Blood of Dawnwalker is an all-new, AAA action-RPG that manages to impress in every way, and one that’s our frontrunner as the Game of the Year. We might possibly be witnessing the birth of a new powerhouse IP.
