In the deep reaches of space, there is no oxygen. You’ll either need to hold your breath for an extremely long time or, better yet, you should equip a helmet in Starfield. In doing so, you’ll receive additional O2, which affects sprinting and jumping, and enjoy various damage resistances. So, if you want to survive a gun battle with Crimson Fleet, equip a helmet. Here’s how!
Learning to Equip a Helmet in Starfield
Thankfully, equipping a helmet in Starfield is cut and dry. In fact, shortly after completing the opening scene for Argos Extractors, Lin will tell you to equip a helmet before venturing outside. To do so:
- Open your inventory and scroll down about halfway until you find the helmet section.
- Enter the helmet tab, select any helmet you have, and then hit the equip button.
Furthermore, on this same screen, you can compare the various helmets you have using the statistics box on the right-hand side of the screen. You’ll want to carefully compare damage resistance, effects, and value.
How to Hide a Helmet in Starfield
If you want to hide your helmet in Starfield, it’s a simple button press when selecting the equipped helmet. On a controller, you’ll hit ‘RB’; on mouse and keyboard, you’ll hit ‘T.’
It’s not necessary to hide your helmet, but it’s more aesthetically pleasing when wandering about a world with a breathable atmosphere. It also works in cities like New Atlantis and Neon, where wearing one’s helmet in a public space wouldn’t make much sense.
