Activision Wants to Create “Greatest Halo Game Ever,” New Entry to Be a “Full-Feature, Mainline Installment”
Yesterday, Microsoft announced the continuation of Xbox’s reset, and confirmed that the next Halo game will be developed by Activision, with Halo Studios now operating in a support capacity.
For those thinking that Activision will just tap one of its Call of Duty studios to step in and take over the Halo franchise, we’re glad to say that’s not what’s happening.
Activision is taking this very seriously and is aiming this new Halo project ot be the “greatest Halo game ever,” which is a lofty goal to aspire for.
Activision’s Halo Project Confirmed to Be Mainline Entry

Rob Kostich, president of Activision, has also spoken about the move, saying that they want to make the best Halo game in history. The first step is to build a new development team completely focused on Master Chief.
Kostich explained, “For Halo, our goal is clear: make the greatest Halo game ever, worthy of its universe and legacy, while staying true to what made players love it in the first place. It is a bold ambition, one that this franchise deserves. We have already begun assembling a purpose-built team, unique in capability and talent, ready and excited to deliver this next chapter with the community.”
In addition to that, The Hollywood Reporter has said they’ve heard the Halo game being developed by Activision is a new mainline entry in the franchise, and won’t be a spinoff.
“And then there is the big consumer news of the day: Activision, the Call of Duty studio, will make the next Halo game, which THR is told will be a full-feature, mainline installment into the franchise. The Halo games have previously been made by franchise creator Bungie and later Halo Studios (FKA 343 Industries). Activision also makes Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon and the Tony Hawk Pro Skater games,” the publication mentioned.
Halo’s move to Activision has its pros and cons. On one hand, Activision’s experience with Call of Duty could help improve Halo’s multiplayer. On the other hand, that same experience raises concerns that Halo’s online multiplayer could become filled with microtransactions, unnecessary collaborations, and unusual cosmetics.
In related news, newly launched Halo: Campaign Evolved reportedly struggled with management problems that also resulted in the cancellation of an unannounced Halo multiplayer game.
