It looks like Activision’s revenue when it comes to consoles comes primarily from Sony’s PlayStation division especially if compared to Microsoft.
In Activision’s latest SEC filing, the company disclosed that Sony’s PlayStation division (called Sony Interactive Entertainment) accounted for 13% of Activision’s revenue in 2022, while Microsoft’s was so low that it failed to even register in the report.
As you can see from the report’s notes, Microsoft didn’t even account for 10% of revenue in the timeframe. Surprisingly enough, it looks like Apple is the top moneymaker, which is no doubt buoyed by Activision-Blizzard’s strong mobile presence.
I have to admit, I didn’t expect the gap to be this big. I mean, Call of Duty has been marketed as a Sony game for the last few years, but even so, there’s bound to be millions of gamers playing not only Call of Duty but Blizzard games on Xbox, right?
Are you surprised at this number or were you expecting it given the PlayStation’s dominance in the previous generation of consoles and in the current one?

We can actually see that both Sony and MS are in decline since their Nextgen Consoles were released:
In 2020 Sony had 17% and MS had 11%. in 2021 Sony had 2% less at 15% and MS had at least 2% less at <10%. In 2022 Sony yet again lost 2% and is now at 13%, while MS remains <10%. Looking at the percentages of Google and Apple we can guess that MS probably lost 3% from 2020 to 2021 and another 1% from 2021 to 2022. So both lost 4% from 2020 to 2022 to Google and Apple, I wouldn’t call Sony the primary revenue driver on consoles as it is just at 13 in 2022 with MS likely at 7%, that’s not a huge difference and can only touch apple when combined.
So far, 0 good new games have been released since the year 2020 and mobile gaming is continuing to get worse and worse. I thini this is the beginning of the end of the gaming industry🤧🤧🤧
What a crap take, first Microsoft could have accounted for just 10% and it wouldn’t be included on the sheet. Second is that Call of Duty has been advertised as a Sony PlayStation game for nearly a decade not just the “last few years”.
+/-3% for margin of error accounting.
Not a surprise. Xbox is a distant third behind Nintendo Switch and PlayStation.
What are the Nintendo numbers?
Are you serious? It’s pretty commonly known that the Switch has outsold the Xbox and PS4/PS5. It’s not even close. Nintendo is far and away the best selling console, Sony is behind them, and Microsoft is distantly in third.
And this is why the deal will go through. They can’t legally stop xbox from acquiring activision.
Yup. Microsoft has the right to make any game series better than before
How is Google a top game revenue maker when Google never even contrubuted to the gaming industry? This is very suspicious
Google and Apple have mobile game stores, which both offer Candy Crush. That’s why it’s their top earner
This is the real face of inequality
How is it even legal for them to prevent the acquisition? So what if Sony don’t like it? Who cares? Nobody batted an eye or shed any tears when Sony prevented bloober team releasing silent Hill 2 remake on xbox..all the games Sony have as exclusives and they are crying about 1 game….hypocrisy is all that is
1- that is a huge clickbait, Xbox accounts for 10% and has always been the platform for FPS multiplayer games, it’s the console that pioneered this genre
2- if your headline was teue that means Sony is in a big big trouble and they have to accwpt this merger so the competition becomes balanced and more fair, so Xbox can get a bit more revenue to compete.
