Possibly one of the best news to come out for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has happened today, as Activision has confirmed they are removing the “carry forward” system to the upcoming Call of Duty game.

This means that your skins in Black Ops 6 and in other Call of Duty titles will not carry over to Black Ops 7!

Those Beavis & Butthead skins? Yeah, we won’t see those on Black Ops 7 — at least initially, though we’re not so sure this will solve the game’s skins issue.

Black Ops 7 Takes One Big Step in Making It Right for Players

In a new community update by Call of Duty staff, Activision confirmed they have heard the feedback from players, stating, “We know there’s been a lot of conversation recently about the identity of Call of Duty. Some of you have said we’ve drifted from what made Call of Duty unique in the first place: immersive, intense, visceral and in many ways grounded. That feedback hits home, and we take it seriously. We hear you.”

The staff then explains what’s changing and why, “Operators, Operator Skins, and Weapons from Black Ops 6 will no longer carry forward into Black Ops 7.” The reasoning behind this? It’s explained as, “Black Ops 7 needs to feel authentic to Call of Duty and its setting. That is why Black Ops 6 Operator and Weapon content will not carry forward to Black Ops 7.

However, Double XP tokens and GobbleGums will still carry forward, which is something I think everyone will appreciate.

Also of note, carry forward being removed is only for Black Ops 7, and Warzone will not be affected, meaning you should be able to carry forward your Black Ops 6 skins to Warzone like the norm.

While this is a commendable move, this doesn’t mean Black Ops 7’s skins will be grounded. Just one look at the Vault Edition bonus skins, and you’ll see how not-so-grounded the designs are. Unless you think a soldier with an arc reactor in their chest is grounded, then more power to you.

Given how the Black Ops 7 reveal got ratioed hard, I’m not surprised the developers are making this announcement. Of course, the big test is when Season 1 and succeedng seasons roll out, and whether Activision can resist putting in crossover skins for maximum profit.

Black Ops 7 launches on Nov. 14 on consoles and PC, and one of the pre-order bonuses is beta early access, which kicks off in October. In comparison, check out the leaked Battlefield 6 soldier skins that we’re expecting to be available in the game.
