ARC Raiders Censorship in Black Ops 7 Was an Error Claims Activision, but Embark Is Having Fun With It

While playing the Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 beta, many players noticed that any attempt to mention “Arc Raiders,” the upcoming extraction shooter from Embark Studios, was automatically censored in the in-game chat. This has led to speculation that Activision was limiting its mention on purpose, due to the nature of it technically being a “competing” game.

However, as it turns out, this was just an error in the system. One that will be fixed if it hasn’t already. That hasn’t stopped Embark Studios from taking advantage of the situation in a rather playful and clever way.

ARC Raiders Pokes Fun at Call of Duty for Censoring Its Name in Beta Chat

As players were quick to notice during the Black Ops 7 Open Beta, the term “ARC Raiders” is censored, resulting in asterisks as if it were some bad word of sorts. This strange filter only blocks the two words when they’re used together — something that usually happens with swear words or offensive language. What makes it even stranger is that other games like Battlefield 6 can be mentioned without any problem.

The news quickly spread online, and the official ARC Raiders X (formerly Twitter) account decided to have some fun with it. The developers posted, “We’re still on track to release *** ******* on October 30th!” along with an image (above) showing the same asterisks. The post has already garnered over 1.4 million views.

After the post went viral, Activision also issued a statement to PC Gamer, explaining that the censorship was not intentional. The company described it as a “text filter error” and confirmed that it would be corrected shortly.

PC Gamer wrote, “The block of ‘Arc Raiders’ in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 beta test lobbies was the result of a text filter error. How exactly a mistake of that very specific nature happened was not shared, but the company said the error will be fixed soon, and may well be by the time you read this.”

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time “Arc Raiders” has been censored. Earlier this year, EA’s app also filtered the name for a short time before fixing it.

In other news, Embark Studios announces an ARC Raiders price cut in select regions, offering refunds to early buyers ahead of the game’s Oct. 30 launch.
