Battlefield 2042: DICE Says They “Shot for the Moon” and Missed, but It Is a “Really Good Game Now”

Battlefield 2042 Ground Vehicle Improvements

While Battlefield 2042’s launch didn’t exactly go as planned, it seems DICE is slowly turning things around and the player base has responded, as the game seems to be getting more and more players into the fold.

For old school Battlefield fans, Battlefield 2042 shook up the franchise by introducing specialists in favor of the traditional classes, which didn’t exactly pan out according to plan. DICE is aware of the missteps at launch, and even mentioned how the studio was initially shooting for the moon.

This was revealed by DICE during a chat for Season 3. In it, Alexia Christofi, Associate Producer, mentioned how, “We shot for the moon, and we just missed” when referring to BF2042’s launch.

“We shot for the moon, and we just missed…And I think delaying Season 1 was difficult for us. It was hard, but the team realized that we were totally doing it for the right reasons and that we needed to focus on, like, ‘How do we make sure that the feedback from the community is more embedded in what we’re doing?’ – DICE Associate Producer, Alexia Christofi

While the studio has that sentiment when it comes to the game’s launch, the constant updates and adjustments has made it a better game — something that’s not lost on DICE Senior Producer Ryan MacArthur.

This sentiment was shared by Christofi who added that the studio is feeling “really good” about the game’s direction.

“Well, it launched rough, but man is it a really good game now.” – Senior Producer, Ryan MacArthur

“We’re feeling really good about the direction the game has gone in and is going…and we want to not just show it with words. We want people to jump in and play and see if they think, ‘Oh, yeah, actually, this is totally not what I expected’ given the history of looking on the internet or whatever.” – DICE Associate Producer, Alexia Christofi

For those who’ve played BF2042 at launch and with the latest content drops and adjustments, it’s hard to deny that the game has improved drastically since launch. However, it remains to be seen whether the changes and additions made are enough to entice players to give it another go-around.

Outside of Season 3, DICE has confirmed Season 4 and Season 5, with the major specialist rework update hitting in early 2023. You can read more about the upcoming season and changes right here.

Do you think Battlefield 2042 is a good game or it still doesn’t deserve that even now?

How can it be any better! It’s the same lame ass spider man, flying squirrel, wall hacking, specialist they started with.

BF2042 is in a decent state now, closer to what it should have been from day 1. But there is still a long way till it is on par with BF3/4/1! There is some small amount of fun to be found with this game, but nothing close to what I had with the previous mentioned BF iterations imo!
