Battlefield 6 New Update 1.000.003

Earlier this week, publisher Electronic Arts revealed the slate of content for Battlefield 6 Season 1. Players will receive new maps, weapons, modes, and more, with a continuous drop until December to round out 2025.

It seems there might be surprises on the way not included in the Season 1 roadmap, and one of these is “Covert Operations,” which is something that has never been mentioned (as far as we’re aware) as part of Battlefield 6’s post-release plans.

This is not a leak or a rumor, but something that came from EA directly, too.

Battlefield 6 “Covert Operations” Mentioned in Marketing Email

In an email to existing EA account members, it mentions that part of the free post-launch content incoming for Battlefield 6’s first season includes “new maps, modes, weapons, and covert operations.”

We’ve screen-grabbed the email for reference:

While covert operations sounds like a new game mode, it could very well refer to daily/weekly or seasonal missions that players can acomplish for while playing. These include tasks such as reviving X amount of teammates playing as a Support class, damaging or destroying X amount of vehicles as an Engineer, and so on.

That’s what we’re assuming it is, but it could very well be something else entirely. We’ve contacted EA for confirmation about it, and will update the story if we get a response.

The Season 1 content reveal outlines a ton of stuff already, but there is a very high possibility that EA left some out as surprise content for players. One of these includes the Battle Royale mode, which was rumored to be released on Oct. 28, the same day Season 1 kicks off.

I wouldn’t put it past EA to not reveal anything dropping in Season 1 to further build up hype and player satisfaction.

Battlefield 6 Console Versions Can Run at 120fps?

In addition to that, the same email also mentions that the console versions will be able to run up to 120 frames-per-second on Performance Mode. It doesn’t say it’s just for the PS5 Pro, but it just mentions it casually in the marketing email/

Based on what EA has officially revealed, the base PS5 and Xbox Series X can reach up to 80fps. However, it has been reported that the PS5 Pro version does hit 120fps, although not consistently. The marketing email mentions that 120fps is available for all console versions, as it doesn’t specify the PS5 Pro.

Not only that, but the tech experts at Digital Foundry also tested the BF6 Open Beta, and found that the game does hit close to 120fps, which makes EA’s claims technically true, I guess. Digital Foundry also reported that with VRR enabled, to help reduce tearing, the base PS5 during the beta achieved 110 FPS, although it hovered around 80-90 FPS on average. Mind, this was the beta, which means DICE could have made improvements to further optimize the game.

Here are the official frame rate and resolution specs via EA:

There will be an option to choose between prioritizing game performance or image quality on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. You can find a specific breakdown for each console below.

  • Xbox Series | S: Maximum resolution of 1080p and targets 60FPS
  • Xbox Series | X Fidelity Mode: Maximum resolution of 1440p and targets 60FPS
  • Xbox Series | X Performance Mode: Maximum resolution of 1280p and targets 80+FPS
  • PlayStation 5 Fidelity Mode: Maximum resolution of 1440p and targets 60FPS
  • PlayStation 5 Performance Mode: Maximum resolution of 1280p and targets 80+FPS
  • PlayStation 5 Pro Fidelity Mode: Maximum resolution of 2160p and targets 60FPS
  • PlayStation 5 Pro Performance Mode: Maximum resolution of 1620p and targets 80+FPS

We’ve also contacted EA about the 120fps claims, and will update the story if we get a response.

So far, it seems EA is hitting all the right notes for Battlefield 6. Let’s hope there are no nasty surprises that sneak up post-release. That said, given EA will soon be owned by another set of companies, we wouldn’t be surprised if the developers are forced to put in some ridiculous skins or crossover content.

In other Battlefield 6 news, the pre-load for all platforms is live, and we have the file sizes and even store links listed.

Battlefield 6 will be released on Oct. 10 on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
