Since its release, Battlefield 6’s journey has been a rollercoaster. There have been great moments that brought back the best parts of the series, but also setbacks, such as a less-than-ideal launch for REDSEC and a drop in player numbers.

Battlefield 6 continues to rely on new content and also on microtransactions, including cosmetic skins. These cosmetics are now at the center of a new controversy.

Expensive Battlefield 6 Skins Quickly Become Free and Fans Are Not Happy

The new Battlefield 6 skins were created in collaboration with clothing brand 5.11. They include four outfits and came with a special, and quite expensive, way to unlock them. To get access, players had to place an order in the 5.11 clothing store.

By spending at least 50 dollars in the store, players received a ticket for one skin. Just one — it only unlocked a single cosmetic item. The other three skins were sold separately in a pack priced at 16 euros.

This decision quickly led to complaints from fans, many of whom were excited about the new skins. Even so, many players decided to pay for them.

Only one week later, all the skins became available for free in Battlefield 6. Players simply need to complete very easy in-game challenges to unlock them.

To make things worse for some players, the skins are still being sold. The three-skin pack remains available, although it now offers a discount if you have already unlocked one of the skins.

So far, EA has not clearly explained why the skins were made free just one week after being sold through a paid promotion.

“This is a huge middlefinger to the people who actually paid for the bundle and even more for the 5.11 order,” one user wrote on ResetEra. Another comment said that “EA/DICE are really pulling Destiny levels of pissing off a fanbase that would be absolutely dying to love your game.”

In other Battlefield 6 news, DICE has confirmed they are looking to improve weapon mastery and progression so it won’t feel like an unnecessary grind.
