Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Ranked Play Won’t Be Available at Launch Confirms Infinity Ward

modern warfare january 22 patch

If you’re one of the players who relishes in ultra competitive multiplayer matches, and was hoping you’d be able to partake in that come Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s launch, you’ll have to wait. Infinity Ward has confirmed that Modern Warfare ranked play won’t be available at the game’s launch.

In an hour-long Q&A with Game Informer, Studio Narrative Director Taylor Kurosaki, and Multiplayer Design Director Jo Cecot answered a ton of questions, and one of them was about Modern Warfare ranked play.

Q: Will ranked play be available at launch?

A: I don’t know about that one. That’s something that’s very important to us and we’re working on. But as we’re finishing up the game, we’re figuring out what’s on and what’s not. We have a pretty aggressive post-launch plan, and we have a bunch of pieces that we’ll be able to play with, but we don’t know what’s going to be on it yet.

You can watch Joe Cecot talk about it in the 26:15 mark of the video below.

While this might be a bummer for some, don’t forget that most Call of Duty games didn’t have it at launch, either. If I remember correctly, Black Ops 4 implemented it three months after launch.

In other Modern Warfare news, Infinity Ward says that they will talk about in-game microtransactions as we get closer to launch. Also of note, Modern Warfare will have a beta this coming September, and leaked info says that it will be at 60GB.

Are you bummed out with Modern Warfare not having ranked play at launch or it’s not that big of a deal for you?
