Capcom Addresses Dragon’s Dogma 2 PC Concerns: Starting a New Game, MTX and More

Dragon's Dogma 2 Sales

While Dragon’s Dogma 2 seems to be another top-tier release by Capcom in terms of gameplay, it seems the PC version of the action-RPG has quite a bit of issues tied to it. It’s gotten a bit much, as Capcom has addressed the Dragon’s Dogma 2 PC concerns.

According to Capcom, they have received “numerous comments” from the community about the following topic:

Crashes and bug fixes
We are investigating/fixing critical problems such as crashes and freezing.
We will be addressing crashes and bug fixes starting from those with the highest priority in patches in the near future.

The option of starting a new game
We are looking at adding a feature to the Steam version of the game that will allow players that are already playing to restart the game. We will announce more details as soon as we can.

Paid DLC
All the items listed below can be obtained in-game or as paid DLC items.
Art of Metamorphosis – Character Editor
Ambivalent Rift Incense – Change Pawn Inclinations
Portcrystal – Warp Location Marker
Wakestone – Restore the dead to life!
500 Rift Crystals / 1500 Rift Crystals / 2500 Rift Crystals – Points to Spend Beyond the Rift
Makeshift Gaol Key – Escape from gaol!
Harpysnare Smoke Beacons – Harpy Lure Item

Regarding Frame Rate
A large amount of CPU usage is allocated to each character and calculating the impact of their physical presence in various areas. In certain situations where numerous characters appear simultaneously, the CPU usage can be very high and may affect the frame rate. We are aware that in such situations, settings that reduce GPU load may currently have a limited effect; however, we are looking into ways to improve performance in the future.

Capcom apologizes for the inconvenience these issues have caused. Based on the wording, expect a patch to drop soon-ish.

As for starting a new game on PC, it can be done, and we have a guide to do just that here.

While there are issues with the game, it’s not enough to detract from the overall experience, as our review talks about it glowingly and mentions, “Dragon’s Dogma 2 is an instant classic, the ultimate RPG adventure that fans have been dreaming about, making that long wait well worth it.”

Why aren’t you guys talking about how absurd these “dlcs” are? They’re literally selling “fast travel” and “character editing” 🙃

That was in our review when the embargo lifted:

“But my biggest gripe isn’t with the save system but with general traversal in the game. The world of Dragon’s Dogma 2 is far larger than the previous games, but like those games, you’ll spend much time walking to locations or using travel carts. Fast travel does return here via Portcrystals, but it’s so limited. When you get your first Portcrystal, the game tells you you can only set ten of these at any moment. It’s more than enough, and some cities have a permanent one that unlocks after touching it. But that’s not the case for all major cities and towns out there, and after 60 hours, I’ve only found three Portcrystals myself.

Sure, you might think that’s a bit of a nitpick, but Capcom is also heavily monetizing Dragon’s Dogma 2. Most of the items they plan on selling are easy to get, but the one that stuck out is that they’re selling Portcrystals at $3 a pop. That doesn’t sit well with me for what I probably consider one of the best items in the game to use, especially with how rare they’re to come by. There could be an item somewhere in the game that changes that, but based on my time, I haven’t seen it yet.”

And this was before they were even live on the storefronts. At the end of the day, it wasn’t detrimental to the experience. I Could go pick up Dragon’s Dogma 2 from GameStop, have my system offline, and never ever once see those MTs, and the core experience wouldn’t change. Before anyone mentions they made those limited for that reason, the first game was also like that. It’s a design choice, not the best, but a choice the studio made regardless.

At this point all the MT being sold are just early boost, something that has remained unchanged for the last 10 years in Capcom titles. Are people forgetting Devil May Cry already? Resident Evil? Monster Hunters? Basically any Capcom game in the last decade and some have had these exact same MTs.

I don’t agree with them, but they’ve never impacted the balancing of the games.
