Capcom Says Mega Man Remains One of Their Most “Important IPs,” Even Without a New Entry in Sight

The Blue Bomber, aka Mega Man, continues his hiatus, which began with the last new entry in 2018. While Capcom has released several collections from the series over the years, we’ve yet to see any hints of the franchise returning with an entirely new game.

Despite that, though, Capcom still holds the IP in high regard, revealing that it’s still one of the most important IPs in their portfolio.

Don’t Get Too Excited, Capcom Still Doesn’t Know What’s Next for Mega Man

As stated during a recent shareholder Q&A, Capcom revealed that they consider the Mega Man IP to be among their most important IPs, though, sadly, offered no real insight into what the future may hold for it.

Q. Please tell me about your plans for the Mega Man series.

A. The Mega Man series is one of our most important IPs, and we are continuously considering ways to develop it further. However, we do not have any additional information we can share at this time.

This was followed up with another question about the IP, specifically regarding the merchandise contribution the series brings. Capcom noted that they receive a high volume of inquiries for Mega Man from overseas markets and that they would continue to expand on this further.

Beyond that, nothing else, meaning fans will have to continue waiting for his next adventure.

If the franchise were to return, what kind of game would you like to see it be? A continuation of the original mainline, with Mega Man 12? Or perhaps maybe a new Battle Network? What about a Zero game, or a new X? Perhaps something entirely new altogether to kick start a new modern-era Mega Man franchise?

While Mega Man might not have a new entry anytime soon, one of Capcom’s other important IPs, Resident Evil, will have its ninth chapter available early next year. The first story details for Resident Evil Requiem has been revealed, and it sounds like it might be one of the most interesting entries in the franchise.
