clid the snail hands-on

For those looking for something off-beat, Weird Beluga Studio has concoting, CLlid the Snail — a top-down, action game where you play a humanoid snail. Publisher Koch Media has given MP1st some time to test the game out, and here are our inital impressions

Check out our impressions along with gameplay from our play session.

Clid the snail is a top-down action adventure game where you play as Clid the humanoid snail, who doesn’t want to live a normal boring life but decides to explore the world anyway. In his arsenal, he has a few weapons up his sleeve, it ranges between a mini gun, grenades and other various weapons.

In Clid the Snail, aside from its action adventures, you do come across some puzzles. In the preview build, the puzzles weren’t too difficult and it was a nice change of pace from shooting everything in sight. Clid the Snail has a great balance of being comedic at times with some serious tones as well. In the preview build, I encountered a boss called the Ska, which is basically a mouse that absolutely loves everything about fire. It wasn’t too difficult of a boss, and it had very specific traits which made it easier to learn how to defeat it. I enjoy it when games go with this approach to combat.

Some key points of Clid the Snail:

  • You’ll have to help Clid overcome all the challenges you will find into along this double-stick shooter.
  • Your ingenuity as a player will be the key for solving all the puzzles that make up this dark fable.
  • The different scenarios of Clid the Snail add a mystical touch to the game.
  • The contrasts of colors, will allow you to feel each of the game scenarios: from a sandstorm to an entire city on fire.
  • Explore and feel this wonderful world!
  • Have you ever wondered what’s wrong in a snail’s mind? What if, besides, it was a grumpy snail? Clid is always angry, and little Belu’s words don’t help calm his temper. Have fun with these conversations and feel their love-hate friendship so comic!

Overall my impressions of the Clid the Snail Preview build are pretty positive. I had a blast playing it, and if you enjoy top-down shooters with some puzzles and a bit of a story with comedy, and a different outlook on a game. This is my first time playing a game where a snail is the main character, and it’s definitely an interesting premise.

We have an interview with Weird Beluga Studio going up this week where we talk about the action title, so stay tuned.

Clid the Snail is out this summer on PS4 and PS5, and will hit PCs later this year.

There’s a good reason why, when the second wave of Playstation Talents games were announced, Sony Spain picked this one as the best of the bunch. For every mediocre fudder from PS Talents, a gem like this would pop out. I just hope it ends up decent. Not to mention that so far, I haven’t seen too much marketing about the game aside from maybe one or two videos, but hey, it’s better than nothing compared to most other PS Talents game like Ion Driver which I honestly didn’t know they even got released lol
