Dead Island 3 in Development, Launch Planned for 2028
It seems unbelievable that after waiting so many years for Dead Island 2 — originally announced in 2014 and finally released in 2023 — we’re already getting a third installment in a much shorter time.
But it’s true: Dambuster Studios, the team behind the second game, is already working on Dead Island 3. The developers and Deep Silver aren’t rushing things, but thankfully, we won’t be waiting ten years this time around.
Dead Island 3 Already Has an Official Release Window

According to Dambuster Studios’ financial report (thanks, Timur222), new details have emerged about Dead Island 3. However, it has already been made clear that the sequel will not arrive in 2026.
The report states that Dead Island 3 is planned to release in 2028. It’s clear that the game will still need a few years of work, and by the time it’s ready, the PS6 and the next Xbox might already be in stores.
As of March 2025, the studio has 194 employees, with 93% actively working on Dead Island 3. Once the Mac and Amazon Luna versions of Dead Island 2 are released, the quality assurance (QA) team will also move on to assist with development of the third installment.
When it comes to its release window, everything points to Dead Island 3 being ready between January and June 2028, that is, in the first or second quarter of that year.
The statement reads, “Parts of the game are now in early production, with feature, character, world, and story design moving at pace. The current predicted release window for the project is Q1/Q2 2028.”
It’s clear that Dead Island 3 will take its time to meet expectations, and fans shouldn’t expect to see it before 2028. As more information about the project unfolds, we’ll be sure to keep you updated here at MP1st.
Until then, you can still enjoy Dead Island 2 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. Our review of Dead Island 2 gave it a score of 8/10, stating, “With a consistent and crunchy limb damage system, some great sightseeing to catch, and more secret side-quests than you can shake your damaging electrocutor pike at, Dead Island 2 is absolutely worth the ride.”
