By now, chances are you’ve heard that Gears of War is headed to PlayStation for the very first time later this year. Titled Gears of War: Reloaded, it’s a remaster of the original Gears with added bells & whistles.
Over the weekend, Microsoft revealed that Gears of War: Reloaded beta will kick off this month, and now we know a lot more info.

Are there any platform restrictions?
No, access to the Gears of War: Reloaded Multiplayer Beta will not be restricted to any specific platforms. You will be able to play the Multiplayer Beta on all platforms the full game will be released on, including Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam – including SteamOS and Steam Deck.

How do I access the beta?
Access to the Multiplayer Beta is automatic and available to pre-install across all platforms now. There are no codes to input for access. There is also no early access to the beta.
How to gain access to the beta:
- Pre-order Gears of War: Reloaded digitally for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Steam or PlayStation®5
- Have an active Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass membership
- Own a digital copy of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition*
What’s playable each weekend?
Weekend 1 includes the social multiplayer experience of Team Deathmatch across three maps including Gridlock, Raven Down and Gold Rush.
Weekend 2 includes everything from Weekend 1 while expanding the map selection for Team Deathmatch to Courtyard and War Machine. It also adds competitive King of the Hill on Canals to the mix.
Do I get anything for playing?
Those that preorder Gears of War: Reloaded, digitally or physically, and Game Pass Ultimate or Game Pass PC members will receive two character skins for use in multiplayer, including:
- Adam Fenix: Father of Marcus Fenix and legendary military scientist who invented the Hammer of Dawn. Now he’s geared up and ready to help defend humanity from the Locust Horde.
- Anya Stroud: The guiding voice of Delta Squad, from the desk at COG CIC to the warzones of Ephyra, Anya is trained and ready to curb stomp some grubs.
These are included and unlocked in the game automatically if you have purchased the pre-order or own Game Pass. The skins will be available upon official game launch on August 26, 2025.
Is cross platform play enabled?
Yes. You can invite friends either through the platform menus or through the in-game menu. You can only invite off-platform players if they are linked to a Microsoft Account.
Can I turn off cross platform play?
Yes. You can enable or disable cross platform play through the Settings menu in-game.
Do I need to link my Microsoft account?
Only to invite friends from other platforms or if you would like to enable cross-progression.

This is a must-play for us, given that this is Gears’ first foray into the PlayStation landscape. Hopefully, The Coalition brings the quality, so we can expect the rest of the franchise on PS5.,
