Next Gears of War Won’t Take Seven Years to Arrive, Says The Coalition CEO, Who Also Addresses the Threat of Possible Layoffs
Gears of War: E-Day has been available on PC, Xbox Series X|S and Game Pass since October 6 and seems to have been well received by critics and fans so far.
The game took seven years to develop, as The Coalition worked to make it one of the most ambitious entries in the series.
It is still unknown what direction the series will take after this entry, but the studio’s CEO wants to make one thing clear: we won’t have to wait that long to play the next one.
Gears of War: E-Day Is a “Great Foundation” for Future Games, Says The Coalition CEO

The Coalition studio CEO Mike Crump spoke to the BBC about the development time for the next chapter in the series. He also addressed the difficult issue of layoffs.
As well as describing E-Day as a “great foundation” for new Gears of War games, he says that “the next game will not take nearly as long” to make as this one.
It remains unclear whether the next game will be another prequel or continue the story of Gears 5, which ended on a major cliffhanger. However, the future direction of the series could also be affected by what happens at Microsoft.
Xbox is continuing with its restructuring, and not even the success of E-Day can completely protect The Coalition from the possibility of layoffs. Crump addressed these concerns by saying that the team is focusing on what it can control.
“What I say to myself, what I say to the team, is we just we need to focus on the things that we can control,” he said. “For us that’s about shipping a great game that people are going to love and I feel like, as a team, we’ve done that.”
Concerns about further cuts remain across Xbox’s studios, including The Coalition. The studio lost E-Day’s narrative director just one week before the game launched in early access.
Even with this uncertainty, Crump is confident about moving forward with an experienced team that has spent years working together. “We’ve got a great team here. And the leadership team in particular has worked together for upwards of 20 years. So there’s definitely a continuity of knowledge and experience.”
For now, the studio’s work is continuing. Gears of War: E-Day will receive more seasonal content, while The Coalition works on the next entry in the series. As more information becomes available, we’ll make sure to let you guys know here at MP1st.
In related news, The Coalition developers say they are proud that Gears of War: E-Day is an Xbox exclusive, calling it a validation of the team’s work.
