God of War Ragnarok to Be One Unbroken Shot Like GOW 2018; Dev Answers Criticism to Character’s Race

god of war ragnarok

While Cory Barlog will not be directing God of War Ragnarok, it seems, Sony Santa Monica will be continuing one of God of War 2018’s cinematic & narrative stylings, in that it the entire game will be one continuous shot from beginning to the end.

This was confirmed by God of War Ragnarok Narrative Director Matt Sophos over on Twitter when asked by a fan whether it will be one shot again, or if there will be cuts and camera transitions from one character to another, or more traditional cutscenes like in past God of War games.

This is definitely good news, as while some people might not think of it too much, God of War 2018 being playable from start to finish gave a more immersive touch, as we saw Kratos’ journey the entire way through.

In another Twitter conversation, Sophos also addressed criticism on how Sony Santa Monica is adding a black character in the game, which we later find out is named Angrboda and is being played by Laya De Leon Hayes. We’ve included the tweets, and a screenshot for context:

Given how we have giant talking snakes in the game, and how Atreus is somehow Loki, concerning yourself on how and why a non-white person is in the game is kind of odd. It’s pretty evident that Sony Santa Monica has their own tale with Kratos and the Norse gods, and this is part of the appeal of the franchise — as it can just go to town on what they want changed in terms of storylines.

For those who haven’t seen our first gameplay look at God of War Ragnarok, go give it a watch! You won’t regret it.

Thanks, Okami!

Matt comes off as very ignorant here, and honestly this is actual cultural appropriation.

Instead of giving any meaningful answer he accused others of racist while being the actual racist.

Instead of giving respect and representation to Africans and their myths he appropriates norse heritage and myths.

It’s really not; it’s an actual understanding of what the jotun are.

And they’re NOT white people. Or even human. They have many, many forms. Getting pissy about this betrays a lot more about the people who are mad than anything else.

It’s weird how you focus on one random Twitter person to focus on your narrative of rasicm in games. 99% of people who play don’t give a shit as long as the game is good. Stop with the obvious attempts at division.
