GTA 5 Sales

Even after all these years, Grand Theft Auto 5 is the gift that keeps on giving. Even after more than a decade of availability, GTA 5, which was first released on the PS3, is still raking in the revenue for parent company, Take-Two Interactive.

During the publisher’s latest quarterly earnings presentation, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick shared that GTA 5 sales are now at a whopping 205 million units sold. There’s no breakdown of which platform has the most sales, but regardless, over 200 million units sold for one title is just an insane number.

This means that in the last three months since Take-Two announced that GTA 5 sales were sitting at 200 million units, the latest entry in the Grand Theft Auto franchise managed to sell over five million units. If I had to hazard a guess,  it seems the hype for Grand Theft Auto 6 is somehow affecting GTA 5.

Speaking of GTA 6, Take-Two also confirmed in the same presentation that the next installment in the multi-million selling franchise is still on track for a “Fall of calendar 2025” release. While there is a chance that GTA 6’s release is delayed, Rockstar has repeatedly reiterated that they see the game releasing in 2025, with Zelnick even saying that he is “highly confident” of them hitting the release window.

We’re about a month in before 2024 ends, and if Rockstar really is seeing a 2025 release for Grand Theft Auto 6, expect a ton of info about to surface once 2025 rolls around.
