GTA 6 to Feature “Hundreds” of Interior Spaces Players Can Exlpore; Story Closer to RDR2 Than GTA 5

Based on the gameplay footage, Grand Theft Auto 6 doesn’t just look stunning, but it has even managed to make a living world inside a game that’s not an MMORPG.

Not only will we see NPCs of all shapes and sizes, but Rockstar also used advanced AI to generate organic, random events

That’s not the only thing that’s technically impressive about GTA 6, as alongside the NPCs, the actual interiors of buildings will be places players can enter, and it’s not just a handful or a dozen, but “hundreds.”

GTA 6 Interiors Can Be Explored by Players

In a behind-the-scenes feature for GTA 6 by Bloomberg, Rockstar Games’ Head of Publishing, Jennifer Kolbe, and development leads Aaron Garbut, Phil Hooker and Rob Nelson talked about the upcoming blockbuster.

Showing off the game, the developers did some side activities in-game, and in the process, confirmed that there are “hundreds” of these little interiors that players will be able to explore.

Nelson, using a controller, played as Jason, and called Lucia to ask if she was in the mood to hang out. When Lucia arrived, pressing a button made Jason kiss her, and they then went for a walk in the park. You can even hold hands while walking with the press of a button.

After going for a drive, the pair went to the gym, where the two can separately do activities such as Jason doing squats while Lucia was running on a treadmill. Once that was done, the duo went to a bank to see if it was worth robbing (Jason decided no since there were too many guards), and followed that up by entering a back office of what was said to be a gas station, where the pair disarmed the alarm, and stole some dough without alterting anyone, which prompted Rockstar to comment, “There’s so many of these little interiors — hundreds of them — that you can go and explore.”

GTA 6’s Story Inspired by Red Dead Redemption 2

Also of note, during the same feature, the game’s narrative was talked about as well. Surprisingly, instead of leaning into GTA 5’s crazy and crass-ness, Rockstar has instead chosen to go the route of Red Dead Redemption 2 in terms of storytelling.

Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier muses,”It seems like the story of Jason and Lucia is more inspired by Red Dead Redemption II than Grand Theft Auto V, which is welcome. The sour nihilism of the last Grand Theft Auto got tiring fast. I recently replayed the first hour of that 2013 game and immediately felt exhausted by the characters, who spend a lot of time insulting and yelling at each other. One thing is certain: this is a story about two people who actually enjoy spending time together.”

So far, it looks like Rockstar is looking for a more serious narrative, and one that will have gamers exploring a more human and realistic relationship.

In other GTA 6 news, Rockstar has promised that their next game won’t take eight years to develop and release.
