We’re a day away from seeing our first official gameplay footage of Grand Theft Auto 6, and before that happens, Rockstar has a ton of info to pore through.

Today, a flood of GTA 6 info has made its way online thanks to magazine Dazed, which has a lot of info to share thanks to its Autumn 2026 issue that focuses on GTA 6.

We learn more about the game’s open world, mechanics for both Jason and Lucia, the confirmation that exercising is back, and a ton more.

GTA 6’s Open World Will Have Varied NPCs, and the Most Detail Rockstar Has Ever Created

We’ve all seen and experienced the GTA franchise’s open world and population, but they are taking it multiple levels up with GTA 6.

Players can expect the most detailed and diverse population Rockstar has ever crafted. Jamie-Lee Lloyd, senior art director for characters, said,”To bring that diversity to life in-game, we developed new tools and pipelines that enabled us to build the most detailed and varied character population we’ve ever created.” but ultimately, Llyod adds, making that population feel authentic comes from more than appearance alone. “It’s the combination of how a charac)ter looks, moves, interacts and expresses themselves, brought together through collaboration across multiple teams.”

There is a ton of gameplay info that’s been confirmed as well, such as being able to switch seamlessly between Jason and Lucia in a mission, and more.

Check out the breakdown of info below (via Satoro38).

  • Leonida / Vice City: The game is set in Leonida, Rockstar’s fictional version of Florida, with Vice City based on Miami.
  • More realistic and reactive world: The world is designed to react more realistically to the player’s actions. For example, walking around with a rifle will attract a reaction from the city.
  • NPCs are more advanced: NPCs are intended to behave less like traditional NPCs, with more varied appearances, movements, interactions and personalities.
  • Jason and Lucia: Players control Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. They can operate together as a couple or separately.
  • Character switching: During activities such as driving and police chases, players can switch between Jason and Lucia depending on the situation.
  • Romance is important: Rockstar describes their relationship as a “Bonnie and Clyde-type narrative.” Their relationship is presented as an important part of the story rather than simply a side element.
  • Lucia is the first fully developed female protagonist in a mainline GTA: The article specifically highlights her role as the series’ first fully fleshed-out female lead in the mainline games.
  • Player freedom remains important: Rockstar wants players to have significant freedom and self-expression while still preserving Jason and Lucia’s established personalities.
  • Character bodies change: Food affects Jason and Lucia’s weight, while exercise can build their muscles. Their appearance can also deteriorate if they spend long periods without sleeping or while on extended binges.
  • Social media exists in-game: The characters have working social-media feeds on their phones, which Rockstar uses as part of its satire of modern America.
  • More diverse NPC population: NPCs have considerably more varied bodies, clothing, tattoos, piercings, hairstyles and lifestyles, with their appearance adapted to different parts of Leonida.
  • Extensive real-world research: Rockstar employees have spent years visiting Miami and surrounding areas, with a dedicated research team based in the city.
  • Real people were interviewed: Rockstar says its research included meeting ex-criminals, law enforcement officers, club promoters, gun dealers and other people connected to Florida’s culture.
  • More detailed brands and culture: In-game brands, shops, fashion and advertising are designed to feel like parts of a functioning culture rather than simply jokes or references.
  • Music culture: Rockstar specifically discusses Miami’s music scene, including Miami bass, hip-hop, house parties, clubs and high-end nightlife.
  • Huge development effort: Rockstar says its team has more than doubled in size since Red Dead Redemption 2.
  • Dedicated NPC development: Rockstar has an LA office focused almost entirely on pedestrians/NPCs, showing how much emphasis is being placed on the population of the world.
  • 50+ real street artists: More than 50 real street artists were reportedly brought in to create murals for locations such as Vice City’s Stockyard.
  • Vehicle handling: The article says Rockstar’s vehicle-handling team includes actual race-car drivers.
  • The overall philosophy: Rockstar is trying to combine the chaotic freedom of GTA with the realism and immersion associated with Red Dead Redemption 2.
  • Release date stated in the article: November 19, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Tomorrow, we’ll finally be able to see official gameplay when GTA 6’s extended look airs on Netflix at 3pm ET/12 pm PT/3 am HKT.

In related news, Rockstar has finally commented on the massive leak the game has suffered from over the past few days.
