GTA 6 Leak: Rockstar Devs Frustrated and Exhausted; No Change Planned for Netflix Premiere or Marketing
It’s been one heck of a week for video game fans, as a ton of Grand Theft Auto 6 gameplay footage has leaked out of nowhere, a week before Take-Two Interactive airs its extended look at the game on Netflix.
While neither Take-Two nor developer Rockstar Games has made any comment about the leak just yet, a new report has surfaced regarding the mood and what’s been happening inside the studio.
Even without a statement released, Rockstar is said to be hunting down the leaker, and has even subpoenaed Microsoft and Discord for records (via Kotaku) to help hunt down the individual or group known as Cyberleek.
One of Rockstar’s Top Exec Sends Email to Staff Denouncing Leaks
In a new report by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, it mentions how one of GTA 6’s top executives has sent out an email to staff denouncing the leaker, and how this incident wouldn’t detract from the work they’ve poured in.
According to a person familiar with Rockstar’s strategy who spoke anonymously because they were not authorized to speak about the situation, Rockstar has yet to identify the leaker. Even with the massive data breach, the studio has no plans to shift the gameplay premiere airing next week on Netflix, nor do they have any plans to change their marketing strategy.
The report also claims that Rockstar’s leaders and many employees are angry, frustrated and exhausted. Not just because of the leak, but because this is the second time a data breach has happened. In case you somehow forget, a trove of GTA 6 info and early footage was leaked four years ago. The suspects were apprehended, but the damage has been done. That breach brought changes to how Rockstar handled security, and chances are this recent leak will usher in major changes yet again.
We’re fully expecting the leaker to be identified and caught by Rockstar and Take-Two given the resources at their disposal. While the leaks are nice, we’re about a week away from official gameplay, and a mere three months away from launch. Let’s hope this doesn’t delay the game in any way,
In related news, per our sources, a hands-off event for GTA 6 was held last month, and the embargo time should lift around the Netflix premiere.
GTA 6 will be released on November 19, 2026 on the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, but don’t expect Rockstar to tak about GTA 6 Online anytime soon.
