With the launch of Grand Theft Auto 6 getting closer, many believed Rockstar Games could soon reveal details about GTA 6’s online multiplayer.

We all know that Rockstar Games is currently focused on the marketing, development, and launch of the single-player part of GTA 6, with the first extended look at the game set to premiere on Netflix later this month.

However, if you were expecting a look at the game’s inevitable online mode, which we’re referring to as GTA 6 Online, that doesn’t seem to be happening anytime soon.

GTA 6 Will Be Marketed as a Single-Player Experience

This new information comes from Jason Schreier, who shared it on his YouTube channel.

He said, “Right now, Take-Two is only talking about GTA 6 in terms of the single-player portion, which will not presumably have recurring revenue. I don’t think they’re putting microtransactions in the single player game and not GTA Online. They have not talked at all and they are not planning to talk anytime soon about what the new GTA Online will look like and what that recurring spend will look like.”

Schreier also talked about the leaked revenue figures for GTA Online, which have neither been confirmed nor denied by Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive. The multiplayer mode of Grand Theft Auto 5 generates $500 million every year for the company.

Both players and investors want to know more about the successor to GTA Online. Take-Two generated $6.7 billion during its latest fiscal year, with $5.2 billion coming from microtransactions. This means nearly 78% of Take-Two Interactive’s revenue comes from recurring player spending in GTA Online, NBA 2K, and other live-service games from Rockstar, 2K and Zynga.

For those wondering what will happen to the current GTA Online after GTA 6 launches, the game will continue to be supported after GTA 6 launches on November 19.

In the same video, Schreier also shared new details from his interview with Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick. The CEO revealed that GTA 6 pre-orders have already “vastly” beaten Take-Two’s internal forecasts.

He further added that the extended look at GTA 6 on August 27 will provide a “meaty” look at the actual gameplay. Zelnick told Schreier that once the extended look goes live, people will understand why Take-Two chose Netflix for the premiere. He also described it as a “must-see event.”

As expected, the marketing strategy for the game is aimed at reaching a much wider audience outside of gaming, including people who know GTA 6 exists but may not be planning to buy the game on day one.

Zelnick also stated that he is “not in the least” concerned about selling to a smaller audience. The company expects the install base at launch to be roughly the same size as it was when GTA 5 originally launched.

In related GTA 6 news, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick was also asked about the game’s $80 price tag, saying that calling it an “incredible bargain” is a “gross understatement.”

GTA 6 launches November 19 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S. If this report is true, then don’t expect GTA 6 Online to be released at the same time as the single-player experience.
