GTA 6 to Be “Playable” on PC and Other Devices via Xbox Cloud Gaming
Well, guys, we’ve made it: Rockstar’s latest Grand Theft Auto game, GTA 6, releases next month. It’s been a long wait, and after a few hurdles, including delays and leaks, the next chapter in the Grand Theft Auto universe will finally be arriving. Well, at least on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, since the title is console-only and skipping a PC launch.
But there is a glimmer of good news for those who don’t want to buy an entire console (especially at today’s prices). A new report claims Xbox has secured the streaming rights for GTA 6, meaning you’ll be able to play the title on several different devices, including PC, phones, gaming handhelds, and more.
PC Players Will Be Able to Play GTA 6 via Xbox Cloud Gaming

As reported by Tom Warren on The Verge, Xbox’s CEO Asha Sharma told employees this morning that the company has acquired exclusive game streaming rights for GTA 6. This means Xbox will be the only platform allowed to let users stream GTA 6 over the cloud, which in turn means those on PC (or any device you can stream Xbox Cloud from) will be able to play GTA 6 when it launches next month.
There’s no word on how long this deal will last, so PlayStation gamers hoping to stream the game via PS Cloud Streaming will likely need to wait longer, though they can just play the game normally on the console.
Those on PC will need to buy a copy of GTA 6 on Xbox, and with no PC version announced, that uncertainty remains; it might not be playable on any supported platform. Meaning you might have to buy GTA 6 again on PC down the road.
But even so, next month Xbox is adding new cloud streaming hour limitations, which are as follows:
- Game Pass Ultimate: 15 hours per month
- Game Pass Premium: 10 hours per month
- Game Pass Essential: 5 hours per month
You can purchase more hours, but that means spending more money. On top of that, you’d need a good, stable internet connection and to be somewhat close to a server to get an experience without heavy latency and quality issues. So there are definitely trade-offs with this route, but hey, it’s an option for those who don’t want to wait for the imminent PC release or buy an entire new system.
GTA 6 officially launches on November 16 on Xbox Series X|S and the PlayStation 5.
