Report: GTA 6 Won’t Get a Physical Disc Version Even After Launch
Rockstar’s decision to release the physical edition of GTA 6 with a download code in the box instead of a game disc has clearly upset many fans, with some retailers even deciding not to stock the game because of the decision.
A recent rumor gave players hope that a disc version could arrive after launch, but a new report suggests that is not the case. The speculation started after Rockstar customer support replied to a customer who had asked about the physical edition. The email said, “You will be able to acquire a physical copy during the following months.”
Many fans believed this meant that a physical copy with a disc would be released in the months after launch. However, according to The Hollywood Reporter, that interpretation is incorrect.
GTA 6 Disc Edition Still Not Happening
The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that the email was genuine and came from a real Rockstar employee. However, a source familiar with the matter explained that the message was misunderstood. According to the source, the term “physical copy” referred to the boxed edition containing a download code, not a disc version that has never been announced.
The phrase “following months” referred to the months after last Wednesday’s announcement, when GTA 6 pre-orders began, not the months after the game’s planned launch on November 19, 2026.
According to The Hollywood Reporter’s source, Rockstar Games has no plans to release a physical disc version of GTA 6, either at launch or in the months that follow. This also goes against claims made by Polish insider Graczdari, who said the disc edition would arrive in December.
While it is impossible to know what Rockstar may decide in the future, the only confirmed fact is that the company has never announced a disc version of GTA 6.
