H1Z1 Going Free to Play on Steam, “Appreciation Pack” Rewarded for Buyers

h1z1 f2p appreciation

If you ever wanted to play H1Z1 but didn’t have the dough (or didn’t want to fork any of it), then your patience has been rewarded! Daybreak Games has announced that H1z1 is going free to play (f2p)! More details about the H1Z1 f2p initiative can be read below.

Starting today (10 a.m. PT), H1Z1 is going free to play, which means another game has been added to the Battle Royale mix! Check out the announcement trailer below, as well as the message by the studio. There’s also an “Appreciation Pack” Daybreak is giving to those who bought the game in early access.

“We are very excited to announce that H1Z1 will be free to play starting today. Not only does this decision allow us to share our version of Battle Royale and Auto Royale with even more players, but it signifies the next step in making H1Z1 a must-watch esport. The Pro League is going to redefine esports when it kicks off in Las Vegas this April, and whether a person is an aspiring pro athlete or just wants to play with friends, we want everyone to have the chance to play the most competitive battle royale game.” — Anthony Castoro, H1Z1 General Manager

Everyone who purchased the game will be rewarded with the Appreciation Pack, which contains the following items:

  • Gasrunner Hoodie
  • Bloom Survivor T-Shirt
  • Splinter Camo ARV
  • 10 Victory Crates
  • 10,000 Skulls

Additionally, Bronze, Silver, and limited edition Gold Batlle Royale packs have been added for the free to pay launch of H1Z1.

Is this the right move by Daybreak Games? Is this move a little too late? Whatever your opinion may be, free is free, right?

What a rapid transition from paid-for launch to F2P… I think people are going to be a tad annoyed by that!
