In celebration of this year’s The Last of Us Day, HBO has released the first official teaser trailer for their upcoming The Last of Us TV series, starring Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie. Just last month, we got a small snippet of show footage from HBO’s sizzle reel, though it’s not exactly as big as the teaser we got today.

For those unfamiliar, The Last of Us Day is celebrated by Naughty Dog (the developer of the eponymous game) on September 26 each year. The event commemorates the day the Cordyceps brain infection reached critical mass in the game’s narrative.

The HBO adaptation of The Last of Us was first announced back in 2020, followed by the casting of Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie in 2021. The series is set for a 2023 release.

Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey have previously co-starred as Oberyn Martell and Lyanna Mormont (respectively) in the Game of Thrones TV series, another one of HBO’s legendary productions.

We’ll keep our readers updated as the series nears release. In the meantime, check out our review of the PS5 remake of The Last of Us.
