Insurgency: Sandstorm Coming To PC & Consoles In 2017, Powered By Unreal Engine 4

Independent developer New World Interactive is teaming up with publisher Focus Home Interactive to bring a new version of their tactical PC shooter, Insurgency, to a much broader audience.

Insurgency

Insurgency: Sandstorm is powered by Unreal Engine 4 “and will be a major visual and technological upgrade to Insurgency,” says NWI’s latest press release. Not only will it re-launch on Windows, OS X, and Linux sometime in 2017, it will also be the first time Insurgency appears on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. While a console launch is a first-time endeavor for the team, NWI says Sandstorm will retain what makes Insurgency unique and challenging and will “stay true to its PC roots…”

In addition, the studio says Insurgency: Sandstorm “will contain some exciting new features such as a new story mode and eSports framework” and will be “built from the ground up with competitive multiplayer, console split-screen, and singleplayer in mind.” According to the game’s description, the setting of the game will “focus on a squad of characters as they face increasingly challenging chapters, from the invasion of Iraq in 2003 through the insurrection period and leading to the present day.”

The current version of Insurgency launched on PC, Mac, and Linux in 2014 as a Source Engine game and became one of our favorite shooters of the year. You’ll find it on Steam for $14.99 USD. We praised it highly in our review and are very excited to hear about this new Unreal-powered reboot coming to PC and consoles in 2017.

Keep your sights on MP1st for more Insurgency updates.
