It Looks Like Former PlayStation CEO Shawn Layden Was Baited to Mock Xbox Boss Phil Spencer
Former PlayStation CEO Shawn Layden mocked Xbox Chief Phil Spencer over his comments in a recent interview on Twitter, though it seems he did it out of misinformation.
After the Xbox Games Showcase on Sunday, the boss sat down for an interview about the decision to bring Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on Xbox Game Pass. Spencer said he doesn’t want to do “slimy platform things” and give people more options to play. “We didn’t say to anybody, you have to subscribe to play. If you want to buy Black Ops, great. It’s great for us, it’s great for the developer. If you want to subscribe, it’s also great. I want to give you the choice on how you play your games and who you play with and not try to do slimy platform things to force you to do what I want you to do. Give the players choice and what they want to do and who they play with.”
A user on Twitter took Spencer’s words out of context, with an angle to show that the executive was taking a jab at PlayStation’s exclusivity deals by saying “slimy platform things”.
Shawn Layden responded to that tweet with a meme mocking Phil Spencer and liked a spree of replies taking a jab at the Xbox CEO over his ever-changing stance on exclusivity in the gaming industry.

While it would look better if Layden checked the entire interview out before chiming in with memes, it looks like nobody pointed it out to the former Sony PlayStation exec.
Phil Spencer hasn’t responded or acknowledged this jab at him by the former PlayStation head. What do you think of this situation? Let us know down below.
Shawn Layden served as the CEO of president of Sony Interactive Entertainment America from 2014 to 2019. As of September 2022, he has joined Tencent Games as a strategic advisor and has also been very active on Twitter.
