New Divinity Game

You saw the news of us breaking the mystery behind The Game Awards statue earlier this week, but if there were still any doubts, Larian Studios has officially confirmed that they’re behind the hellish statue that appeared in the Movave Desert this past week.

Taking to the stage at The Game Awards this year, Larian Studios unveiled the next game in the long-running Divinity franchise, called Divinity.

Larian Studio Makes a Return to Divinity

Update – Here’s details from the press release:

“While Divinity is a brand new game that doesn’t require experience with previous Larian titles, those who’ve played Divinity: Original Sin and Divinity: Original Sin 2 will be able to enjoy greater understanding and continuity.

Swen Vincke, founder and game director of Larian Studios, said “Despite our long history with the series, this is our first game entitled ‘Divinity.’ We’re ready to bring everything we’ve done previously into one place. This marks the beginning of something with more breadth, depth, and intimacy than anything we’ve created before. We’ve been building toward this moment ever since we took our fate into our own hands. This is the Divinity we’ve always wanted to make and you’re going to have loads of fun with it.”

Original Story:

Holy shit, that was a trailer, even if it was all CGI!

Now, believe it or not, the Divinity franchise didn’t start with Divinity Original Sin. While many hopped onto the franchise with that entry and played its sequel, the series had five previous games, none of which were isometric turn-based Tactical RPGs like the Original Sin games were. In fact, the franchise started life as action RPGs, with a later entry being an RTS hybrid. And while successful, the popularity of Original Sin did overshadow the previous entry for newcomers, so it’s not surprising to see that many expected Original Sin 3 to be announced instead.

This is why the announcement of Divinity may come as a much bigger surprise to many of you, and if all the speculations are correct, it means the studio is returning to the franchise’s roots with this one, so we can likely expect it to be an action RPG. We’ll hopefully get more details once the official press release is sent out.

At the moment, there is no release date for Divinity, though we speculate it’ll come to current-gen platforms and PC. The game is said to be their biggest game, even bigger than Baldur’s Gate 3.
