While Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 isn’t officially launching worldwide until tomorrow, October 28, the game has been available for people to play in other parts of the world where it’s already the 28th of October. Unfortunately, this also means that some details that were kept unknown previously has surfaced, and one of this is the fact that Modern Warfare 2 Xbox crossplay cannot be turned off.

While PlayStation (PS4, PS5) gamers can still choose whether to have crossplay enabled or not, Xbox gamers do not have this option at all. Here’s a comparison of the “Account & Network” pages  for both the PlayStation and Xbox (vaa CODWarfareForum):

Bear in mind, that in Modern Warfare 2019, Black Ops Cold War, and even Vanguard, Xbox crossplay could be turned on and off. If this is part of the PlayStation-exclusive benefits that Sony and Activision has agreed upon, it is a little weird that it’s not used as a selling point. Unless, of course, this is either a bug, or both Sony and Activision know how much of a ruckus this will cause among the Call of Duty community.

Speaking of PlayStation-exclusive benefits, Activision has recently updated the Sony landing page for Modern Warfare 2, and in it, the company has listed the benefits gamers will get for playing MW2 on Sony platforms! Thankfully, no content is locked to Playstation gamers this time — not even for a limited time.

Teamwork makes the dream work. PlayStation players that play together in parties receive +25% bonus weapon XP. The bonus still counts when playing with cross-platform teammates.

EXTRA LOADOUTS

Be prepared for any scenario. PlayStation players get an additional 2 loadout slots, ready for customization. Available when Create-A-Class unlocks upon reaching Level 4.

At the very least, there is no mode with timed exclusivity for PlayStation this time around. For reference, Modern Warfare 2019 had Spec Ops mode exclusive to PlayStation for 12 months.
