New SNK vs. Capcom Game a Possibility, as “Both Sides” Are Interested

Yauyuki Oda, the producer behind SNK’s fighting games, has just revealed that both Capcom and SNK see the demand for the SNK vs. Capcom franchise, and are interested in making the game’s comeback a reality.

The SNK and Capcom games’ artwork at the Evo fighting game tournament essentially lit the fire of the fans that want to see the return of the SNK vs Capcom games. The nostalgic merch was also reportedly well received and it showcased the potential for a revival of the franchise.

“Definitely in the future, that’s something that I think everybody on all sides, in both parties, are interested in making a reality,” said Oda. “Especially after we saw the reaction to the [Evo posters]… it helped us reconfirm that that is probably one of the most wanted things from the fighting game community across the entire world.”

It is also worth noting that Oda clarified that SNK has not talked in detail about the possible return of the games with Capcom. He only hinted that their collaboration at Evo might just be the first step towards something happening in the future.

The classic crossover fighting game’s last proper installment was released all the way back in 2003. While SNK continues to make fighting games like King of Fighters XV, there’s been no word on any collaboration with Capcom — at least until now.

Another SNK franchise that’s been dormant for quite some time that’s seeing a comeback is Fatal Fury, which SNK announced at this year’s Evo that it’s getting a major entry after 20 years of absence.
