This is getting quite ridiculous. Initially, it was mentioned that Battlefield 6 would feature “preferred crossplay” wherein for console matchmaking, it will prioritize console players from both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S before picking players from the PC pool.

However, a new interview that was conducted this month refuted that, with Battlefield 6’s Technical Director, who mentioned that there will be console-only crossplay.

But, today, that has since been refuted, as EA says there is no console-only crossplay.

Battlefield 6 Console Crossplay Finally Clarified

Speaking to Dexerto, an EA rep confirmed that there is no console-only crossplay. If crossplay is on, the matchmaking will prioritize matching the player with other console players, though PC players will also be in the matchmaking pool. PC players do not have the option to disable crossplay.

If a console player disables crossplay on console, the game will only match you with players on the same platform PS5 vs. PS5, Xbox Series vs. Xbox Series). This also means you won’t be able to squad up with players from other platforms.

This means the original statement of preferred crossplay is the correct one, though we’re hoping EA reconsiders adding console-only crossplay in a future update.

Speaking of BF6 on consoles, the resolution and performance of each platform has been revealed, and unlike the crossplay news, this should make console gamers happy. In a separate interview, the Technical Director of BF6 shared how they struggled to have the shooter run on the Xbox Series S.

Will this no console-only crossplay news affect your decision whether to buy Battlefield 6 when it launches on October 10? Sound off and let us know.
