Hideo Kojima, the renowned game designer behind Death Stranding, has revealed more details about his upcoming projects. While discussing his new horror game OD, he described it as something completely different from his previous works.

In an interview with Variety, Kojima stated, “It’s a game like no other. I wanted to do something new that wasn’t Death Stranding, so I teamed up with Microsoft to create OD. I can’t go into too much detail, but it’s also hard to explain. It’s a bit risky and a new challenge for me.”

However, he didn’t mention a release date for OD. For those not familiar with the project, it’s a horror game Kojima is working on with Microsoft. So far, there’s not a lot known about it other than it features acclaimed actors Sophia Lillis and Hunter Schafer, and is part of a collaboration with notable horror film director Jordan Peele. Kojima’s last horror project, P.T., was also widely praised by gamers despite being just a demo.

He also shared some insights about his espionage game, Physint, which he described as being in its “early concept stage.” The game was announced during an earlier State of Play event this year. The game is described as ‘action espionage,’ a genre Kojima originally defined with Metal Gear. Because of this, many see Physint as a spiritual successor to Metal Gear Solid. Kojima aso hinted that the project could evolve into a film in the future.

He further explained that Physint is part of Kojima Productions’ broader strategy to expand beyond traditional gaming. After establishing the Death Stranding IP, the studio is now focused on growing its presence across various platforms and media, such as movies, anime, and TV dramas. Physint reflects this approach, aiming to explore new possibilities within “digital entertainment,” which could include creating new IPs and experimenting with different formats beyond video games.

Regarding the Death Stranding movie, Kojima assured fans that despite his busy schedule, he will supervise the plot, although he won’t be directing it himself. “Those works are my babies, and I love movies, so I want it to be something that movie fans will really enjoy,” he said.
