Overwatch 2 Server Downtime Announced, Fixes to Be Rolled Out This October 7

overwatch 2 server downtime

Far from the game being in a stable state, Blizzard has announced that Overwatch 2 server downtime is happening today/tonight again, and it will also see the rollout of a few fixes too.

Overwatch 2 Server Downtime and Update Details for October 7 (Oct. 8 for Non-US):

Here’s the announcement from Blizzard:

We expect to take the servers down at approximately 7pm PDT for an estimated one-hour maintenance to implement further fixes.

That’s 10 pm EDT/10 am HKT and you can convert to your timezone here.

In this server-side update, Blizzard will fix the following:

  • SMS Protect
  • The change to phone number requirements is now in effect. Any Overwatch player with a connected Battle.net account, which includes all players who have played since June 9, 2021, will not have to provide a phone number to play. More details on this change is in this forum post.
  • Queues and Server Times
  • Yesterday’s server shutdowns allowed Blizzard to quadruple the games capacity and eventually lead to a reduction in login queues overnight. Blizzard will continue to keep an eye on this throughout the weekend.
  • Account Merge and Items
  • Some players who merged their accounts should now be seeing their full collections, with more being resolved as people log in for the first time over the weekend. As we said previously, your collection is not lost, and with the database now updated, we now have more bandwidth to complete these merges.
  • Watchpoint Packs and Consoles
  • Console players who pre-purchased the Watchpoint Pack may not be seeing the items as being available. Blizzard is deploying a fix for this during the downtime today.

Hopefully, these items will all be fixed by the end of the maintenance, and that the server issues will be a thing of the past soon.
