Back in August, Sony announced a PS5 price increase in certain markets that made some gamers quite unhappy. While at that time, Microsoft said that they aren’t raising the price of Xbox consoles, it looks like that will change soon, as Xbox division boss Phil Spencer has hinted that Xbox console and even Game Pass memberships will be seeing price hikes.

This was mentioned by Spencer during today’s Wall Street Journal Live event, where Spencer admitted that he thinks they (Microsoft) will have to raise prices “at some point.”
“I do think at some point we’ll have to raise the prices on certain things, but going into this holiday we thought it was important to maintain the prices
We’ve held price on our console, we’ve held price on games… and our subscription. I don’t think we’ll be able to do that forever. I do think at some point we’ll have to raise some prices on certain things…”
No word on how much of an increase Microsoft might be eyeing for consoles and Game Pass. For now, an Xbox Series X is available at $499, while an Xbox Series S is priced at $299. Xbox Game Pass is currently $14 a month for Ultimate, while the base membership is at $10.
Will these price hikes stop you from buying Xbox consoles, items or being an Xbox Game Pass member? Let us know your thoughts down the comments.
Thanks, Tom Warren!
The Series S is $399 now???
Typo! My bad. Corrected. 🙂
Orchard over on N4G going into meltdown making out that, all of a sudden, Phil Spencer isn’t the biggest liar and hypocrite in gaming lol.
Listen here Phil Spencer, Your company is a multi billion dollar organization, Do not give us this oh we might need to increase our prices bull S. Consoles are already expensive as is, yea 500 bucks doesn’t seem like much but when you see skyrocketing gas prices, food prices, rent prices, etc going up, You sir need a god damn wake up call.
Keep in mind the nes in the 80s would have been around 500 dollars if released in this generation. So games for that system would be around 80 to 120 dollars each. Seeing as how when the Playstation first released games were 60 to 80 dollars new I really don’t see how people can say that the newer technology and quality of games are so expensive. I think the problem is more that people don’t know how to live within their means anymore. Rising gas prices, food prices, rent prices are always going to be a thing. Seems you guys are the ones who need the wake up call.
I’m so tired of the pointless console war. I already dropped Sony as a teen for horrible service. If Microsoft price hikes I will be leaving consoles behind permanently.
