I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but here we go: Sony has announced a PS5 price increase in select markets! While the console is still hard to come by in most countries, the console’s price is increasing, which means owning one is made a wee bit harder for some people.

While there is no price increase in the US, those in Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific and Latin America aren’t as lucky. Here are the countries countries affected along with the new price point:

Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan had this to say regarding the price hike:
The global economic environment is a challenge that many of you around the world are no doubt experiencing. We’re seeing high global inflation rates, as well as adverse currency trends, impacting consumers and creating pressure on many industries. Based on these challenging economic conditions, SIE has made the difficult decision to increase the recommended retail price (RRP) of PlayStation 5 in select markets.
While this price increase is a necessity given the current global economic environment and its impact on SIE’s business, our top priority continues to be improving the PS5 supply situation so that as many players as possible can experience everything that PS5 offers and what’s still to come.
Hopefully, buyers will be able to get one without resorting to scalpers soon.
