PS5 Sales Exceed 41.7 Million Units

PS5 Sales

It’s been a couple of weeks since we know that the PS5 has exceeded 40 million in unit sales, but we did not have an exact figure. However, thanks to the recent Sony financial earnings call, we have a specific figure to quote. As of June 30, 2023, Sony’s PS5 sales have surpassed 41.7 million units.

In the last three months (ending June 30), Sony has sold a total of 3.3 million PS5s, which is up 0.9 million from the same period of the previous fiscal year.

Here are some other important key PlayStation figures revealed by Sony in its financial result:

  • As of June 30, there are 108 million active monthly users on the PlayStation Network, this is up 5 million from the same period of the previous fiscal year.
  • PS5 and PS4 software sold a combined 56.5 million units during the same three-month timeframe, which is up 9.3 million from the software sold during the same period of the previous fiscal year.
  • PS5 and PS4 software sold a combined 6.6 million PlayStation first-party titles, which is roughly the same amount of first-party software sold during the same period of the previous year.
  • 72% of the combined software sales were digital, down 7% from last year.

Last week, Nintendo also published their financial results in which they revealed that the Nintendo Switch is nearing 130 million units in sales.

With Spider-Man 2 just around the corner and the PS5 promotional campaign, it seems like Sony will sell a ton of PS5 in the upcoming financial quarter.

With PS5 being more readily available and local retailers having more in stock im not really surprised, between the pandemic and the chip crunch the PS5 had a rocky launch. However, with the PS5 pro and slim im sure consumers would trade in there base model PS5 to help pay for the pro or slim. Meaning that retailers would have additional used or refurbished PS5’s available for anyone who didn’t already have a PS5.
