Report: Bend Studio’s Next Game Is a Third-Person Co-op Game; Reveal Set for 2027
It’s been seven years since Bend Studio released Days Gone on April 26, 2019, and since then, the studio hasn’t released anything new.
While it seems that a sequel to Days Gone was pitched, it wasn’t something PlayStation higher-ups were interested in at the time.
Today, we’re here to shed a bit of light on what the studio’s been working on, and when we should expect it to be revealed.
Bend Studio’s Project to Be Revealed in 2027
Speaking to people aware of what’s happening at Bend but who wish to remain anonymous, the studio’s next project is set to be revealed sometime in 2027.
This unannounced game will be in third-person, feature co-op but won’t be a live service game (not Games as a Service). If you’ve been following our reports, earlier this year, we published an article featuring animations from Bend Studio’s cancelled live service title with the code name “Mirror Pond.” PlayStation gamers will be glad to know that the development outfit is not pushing through with a GaaS game, which isn’t surprising given Sony’s recent attempts at it failed miserably with Concord, and we haven’t even heard of Fairgame$ in quite some time, outside of a secret closed playtest calling it Project Espreso.
While it wasn’t revealed to us whether this is a new IP, one thing we can confirm is it won’t be a Days Gone sequel. For those hoping we’ll see Deacon St. John ride his motorcycle again, it won’t be this time, unfortunately.
While the reveal is set for 2027, we’ve also heard that the title is also aiming for release next year as well, and that it’s “much further along in development” than what people might think. Of course, things could change when it comes to releases, but as far as we’re aware at the time of running this story, Bend Studio’s next game is planned for release in 2027.
It’s worth mentioning that things could change during the course of development, and Sony might suddenly sneak in GaaS elements, or remove co-op entirely, but based on what we’ve heard as of today, Bend’s in-development project is not a live service title, but will still feature co-op elements.
If that’s the case, it will join God of War Laufey, Media Molecule’s still-unannounced game, as some of Sony’s tentpole releases for 2027.
