Report: Crash Team Racing Remake to Be Announced at The Game Awards

If you’re old enough to remember it, there’s one definitive kart racing game on the original PlayStation, and that’s Crash Team Racing; a game based on the Crash Bandicoot franchise, and developed by Naughty Dog. While that game was definitely loved by a lot (including this guy), we sadly didn’t see a sequel.

Given how license holder Activision has been remaster happy as of late with the remaster of the Crash Bandicoot games, and Spyro series, could we finally be getting a Crash Team Racing remake? All signs point to a rip-roaring yes!

PlayStation Access host Hollie Bennett tweeted out this image of a pair of Crash Bandicoot-colored furry dice, which some might recognize as items one might hang on a car’s rear-view mirror, with a note saying, “Sliding into the Game Awards on 6/12 – Anonymous.”

If that tease wasn’t enough, Eurogamer “understands” that this tease is the real deal that and that Activision will make the CTR remake or remaster official later this week — presumably as part of the game reveals in The Game Awards!

Crash Team Racing was released way back in 1999 for the PS1, and was heavily influenced by Nintendo’s Mario Kart franchise. While some might see it as a copycat, it did enough twists and turns on its own to make it a cult classic.

Needless to say, we’re excited to hear about this, and will report on any further developments. The Game Awards will take place this December 6, and we’ll be sure to report on any info that seeps before and during the event.
