Report: Take-Two Interactive Trademarks New 2K Development Team “Small Axe Studios”
Back in May last year, we discovered a Take-Two trademark for “Small Axe,” which at the time seemed to indicate an unannounced game.
As it turns out, it’s actually an entirely new development studio under the 2K umbrella. This comes as we’ve now spotted a second trademark made in Europe that points towards a new team potentially being revealed soon.
Take-Two Interactive Files “Small Axe Studios”
Earlier today, Take-Two officially registered the name Small Axe Studios under tags such as “video game programs” and “entertainment services,” amongst other goods and services (Categories 9 and 41).

This lines up with some activity we’ve been tracking over the last few months. The Small Axe name has been quietly popping up on 2K job listings since April, specifically on a Senior Financial Analyst position. Interestingly, these listings put Small Axe right alongside major 2K teams like Hangar 13 and Firaxis.
As for who is actually behind this new team, we have a pretty solid idea. Late last year, Jason Schreier reported that 2K recruited former Perfect Dark reboot leads Darrell Gallagher and Brian Horton to head up a brand new, unannounced studio. Looking at the timeline, it’s highly likely Small Axe is that exact team finally getting its official name.
Time will tell whether this filing signals a formal reveal of the studio anytime soon. In any case, we’ll keep you informed as we learn more.
In related news about the publisher, recent details revealed that GTA 6’s physical PS5 download codes in Japan will expire only 170 days after launch.
