Resident Evil 4 Remake: Capcom Kept the “You Pervert” Ashley Easter Egg (Sort Of)

Resident Evil fans have discovered that Ashley does indeed respond when players try to look up her skirt, though this time, she doesn’t scold Leon like in the original Resident Evil 4.

As we know, the Resident Evil 4 remake has introduced many new changes, as well as cut several old ones. One specifically is that Capcom ensured the remake didn’t over-sexualize Ashley like the original 2005 did, cutting out lines of dialogue and, most notably, the ability to look above her skirt to see her underwear. Regardless of how you feel about that, we do think it was a smart move by the company to change this, as gaming over a decade ago was in a weird place when it came to women’s representation.

However, despite the ongoing reports saying that Capcom cut any reference to it entirely, this has turned out to be false, as discovered by Reddit users

With enough trial and error, players can eventually trigger an animation for Ashley where she’ll cover her skirt up. However, unlike in the original, where she scolds and calls Leon a pervert, she’ll break the fourth wall instead.

As you can see, she will now look directly at the camera rather than Leon, suggesting she knows what the players are trying to do. An obvious nod to the original, though with a twist that seems to be taking cues from the Nier series, where 2B would swat the camera away, breaking the fourth wall whenever players would attempt to do the same thing to her.

While Ashley doesn’t say the phrase, Capcom has snuck something in that’s even worse given she is directing it at the player and not Leon.
