Resident Evil Franchise Sales Top 131M, Capcom Hopes to Sell 40M Games Total in 2023

Resident Evil Sales

Capcom has published its quarterly earnings, and it has some seriously impressive figures for multiple Capcom titles across the board including Monster Hunter Rise, Monster Hunter Sunbreak, and Resident Evil 2 Remake. The Resident Evil franchise is the biggest highlight of the earnings call, surpassing 131 million units in sales.

The quarterly earnings show that as of September 30, Monster Hunter Rise has topped 11 million copies sold. This number in sales is an increase of 1 million since its last published figures back in July. Other than that, Monster Hunter Rise’s premium expansion, Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak has driven sales to over 4.4 million units thanks to a free title update that launched back in August.

Moreover, Capcom has revealed that the Resident Evil franchise is also bringing in some solid sales. The Resident Evil 2 remake has surpassed 10 million units sold, making the franchise as a whole cross 131 million units sold. Capcom has regarded Resident Evil as its best-selling franchise, which is followed by the Monster Hunter franchise with an overall 88 million sales, Street Fighter at 49 million, and Devil May Cry at 27 million.

Other highlights of the financial report include that Capcom plans on no major releases until the Resident Evil 4 remake launches in March 2023 and that the company plans on selling a total of 40 million games in the coming year thanks to “growing catalog sales.” The Resident Evil 4 remake will definitely help them achieve this goal, as it’s one of the most anticipated games right now in the gaming community.
