Fans of the cult classic 1995 first-person shooter Rise of the Triad, we have good news for you: a remaster of the original title, titled “Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition” is coming to PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch in early 2023!

Apogee Software’s Rise of the Triad was originally envisioned as a sequel to the legendary 1992 FPS Wolfenstein 3D, before being spun off into a separate IP. While the game did not enjoy much commercial success, it quickly gained a significant cult following in the coming decade. Technology and budget constraints forced Apogee to cut a good chunk of planned content out of the game, and the game suffered from numerous bugs and glitches on newer operating systems. A remake by Interceptor Entertainment in 2013 attempted to reimagine Rise of the Triad while staying true to the feel of the original, but failed to garner much commercial attention.

A remaster of the original title was revealed by 3D Realms (the successor to Apogee Software) at Realms Deep 2020. Remastered by Nightdive Studios with help from New Blood Interactive with Apogee Entertainment serving as publisher, Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition features a 4K@60FPS visual experience, increased FOV, cloud saves, restored cut content from the original plus a new story episode, and multiplayer!

In Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition, players gear up with a five-person task force known as the H.U.N.T. (High-Risk United Nations Taskforce) to infiltrate a mysterious (and exceedingly dangerous) island full of maniacal cultists. With updated HUD and UI elements, players can enjoy the classic campaign *plus* restored cut content and a new, original story episode in the Rise of the Triad universe. Once they’ve blasted their way through the single-player campaign, players can grab a few pals and engage in some old-school multiplayer COMMbatt deathmatch with multiple modes!
