Fumito Ueda, director of cult classics Shadow of the Colossus and Ico, is finally ready to let the world know what he’s working on, as the game developer is hoping to “announce something” in 2023.

The statement was made as part of a series of creator interviews from across the Japanese game industry via Famitsu. He doesn’t mention much but asks for support from fans as he and his studio, GenDesign, inch their way toward an official announcement. “All of GenDesign is working hard to be able to finally announce something, so please give us your support,” he states.
Fumito Ueda and GenDesign had been looking for a publisher to work with for future projects back in 2019, and since then they’ve managed to form a partnership with Epic Games. With the large game company as the publisher, Ueda and his team will hopefully have the support they need to make something just as good as Shadow of the Colossus, Ico, or The Last Guardian.
The planned announcement didn’t have any concrete date, so we don’t know exactly when we’ll learn more about GenDesign’s project, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled.
