Sonic The Hedgehog 30th Anniversary Announcements by Sega Coming on May 27

Sonic The Hedgehog 30th Anniversary

Fans of the way past cool hedgehog Sonic will want to stay tuned for some news in the next few days, as Sonic The Hedgehog 30th Anniversary announcements are being teased by Sega, and it’s all coming on May 27!

As revealed on the official Sonic Twitter page, Sega is prepping up a first look at upcoming projects, partnerships, and events for the series!

As one of the most recognizable video game characters ever made, Sonic The Hedgehog first made his debut in his own eponymous title — which was released for the Sega Genesis in 1991. Sega requested for a character mascot to compete with Nintendo’s own Mario, and the result was a blue hedgehog who could run really fast and dedicated himself to freeing his friends who were turned into robots by the evil scientist Dr. Ivo Robotnik. The game would become a critical and financial success, spawning numerous sequels, spin-offs, and even a live-action theatrical film that was released in early 2020 with Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic and Jim Carrey as Robotnik. A sequel to that movie is currently in post-production, and is scheduled for release on April next year.
