SEGA Plans to Release Four Major Games From Mainstay IPs Before March 2027
2026 is not just any year for SEGA, and for two major reasons. First, the company celebrates its 65th anniversary. Second, Sonic the Hedgehog turns 35, just ahead of the fourth Sonic movie, set to premiere in early 2027. It feels like the perfect time for a new game starring the blue hedgehog.
SEGA SAMMY, SEGA’s parent company, has presented its Q3 financial report for fiscal year 2025–2026, which ends on March 31, alongside its overall financial results for 2025.
SEGA Focuses on Its Key Franchises for the Next Fiscal Year

Beyond the numbers, the most interesting part is SEGA’s forecast for the next fiscal year, running from April 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027. And there could be big surprises ahead.
The Japanese company has confirmed that it plans to launch four new games based on major IPs during the next fiscal year. While no specific franchises were named, many believe Sonic will be among them.
That expectation makes sense, given that it has been more than three years since Sonic Frontiers, and Sonic x Shadow Generations was merely an enhanced remaster of the 2011 classic. As a result, a completely new 3D Sonic game feels overdue.
Between April 2026 and March 2027, SEGA will release “four major new titles for mainstay IPs.” While Sonic seems like a strong candidate, other possible franchises include Persona, Yakuza/Like a Dragon, and even classic series such as Golden Axe or Crazy Taxi.
Alongside a possible new Sonic game, fans are also waiting for news about the rumored Persona 6 or the already announced Persona 4 Revival.
It is also worth remembering that Alien Isolation 2 is currently in development at Creative Assembly, as well as new Total War projects including Total War: Warhammer 40,000 and Total War: Medieval 3.
As for Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, after Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties, the next logical step could be a ninth main entry in the series. There is also the possibility of new projects related to Virtua Fighter or Stranger Than Heaven.
On top of that, some of SEGA’s previously announced reboots could arrive this year or in early 2027. The list includes Crazy Taxi, Streets of Rage, Jet Set Radio, and Golden Axe.
The report also states that SEGA will continue expanding its franchises into other media, following the success of Sonic and the Like a Dragon series in film and television.
Do you think a new Sonic game will arrive in the coming months? With the hedgehog’s 35th anniversary, expectations are high. At the same time, it could also be the perfect moment to officially reveal Persona 6, Metaphor: ReFantazio 2, or show more of the horror experience in Alien Isolation 2.

Nice. Hoping for Golden Axe. A new Phantasy Star Universe or Online would be a dream come true. Either remastered or completely new in the classic style of those two. Definitely not the new PSO. That one is garbage in comparison
