It would appear that Valve has no intention of dipping its toes in the booming crypto market (yet?), as new information on SteamDB has detailed that Steam will now block games with cryptocurrency and NFTs.

As first noted on SteamDB’s official Twitter account, a look into recent code changes within Steam’s onboarding rules now block games that fall under specific crypto leanings, as detailed below:

Applications built on blockchain technology that issue or allow exchange of cryptocurrencies or NFTs.

According to the post, at least one cryptocurrency-based game which had an existing Steam store page has already been removed. Scrolling down to the comments, it would appear that there are still some games that flew under Valve’s radar. A game called Mist still has its store page up, and you can clearly see in its promotional videos in the page that it’s built on the Binance Smart Chain.

What do you think? Is blocking crypto-based games a good move on Valve’s part? Let us know in the comments below!

Thanks, SteamDB !
